Crowne Plaza 5-star Hotel extension – Changi Airport, Singapore Up, up, and away… on your next flight through Changi Airport, Singapore, you’ll see a new 10-storey, 5-star, Crowne Plaza Hotel extension. Head Contractor Dragages Singapore Limited, a subsidiary of Bouygues Bâtiments of France, has selected UB and its underlying RUSH technology to underpin the rapid development and installation of this 243-room 10,000 GFA project at one of the tightest construction sites at one of the world’s busiest airports. With the large part of the hotel and façade built in UB’s Shanghai factory, the project is estimated to take 40% off the normal construction period and up to a 75% savings in on-site man-hours. The highly congested site at the airport was a perfect project for UB’s third Singapore project. Designed by WOHA, one of Asia’s leading architectural practices, client OUE Group selected Dragages in part because of its incorporation of the innovative pre-fabricated nature of the submission, which was consistent with the Singapore Government’s strategy of increased volumetric construction technology. With the bulk of the installation activities and manpower moved off- site to a factory controlled environment, site safety is also highly improved. With no set room size or module height or width, the UB system adapts to the specific design features of any given project, allowing it to follow, not dictate the architectural design. Time and man-power savings will be measured by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority. The hotel is designed to be Gold Green Mark compliant, and complies with all existing Singapore building codes and testing requirements into the fabrication by UB in its start-of-the-art production facilities in China.
